Sprint Course Description

SPRINT SWIM–.67 Miles

The SWIM portion of the GREAT SNAKE RIVER TRIATHLON will take place in the Snake River in Idaho Falls.  The SPRINT racers will begin just south of Pancheri Bridge on a sandbar.  There will be Bonneville County Search & Rescue personnel and multiple kayaks/paddleboards on the river for safety.   Swim ending will be at the South Tourist Park / transition area.

SPRINT BIKE—12.4 Miles

The BIKE section of the GREAT SNAKE RIVER TRIATHLON will be a mostly flat course.   SPRINT racers will begin at South Tourist Park and continue south to Sunnyside Road.  Racers will continue on this same road heading WEST until they turn LEFT onto S. 65th West until they hit the SPRINT TURNAROUND, where they will then return on the same path.  Once they cross I-15 again, SPRINT racers will continue until South Pioneer Lane, where they will veer RIGHT to the BIKE PATH (use EXTREME CAUTION HERE) and will veer RIGHT again, crossing the Snake River, then taking a HARD RIGHT (use EXTREME CAUTION HERE) to go UNDER the Freeway, then another HARD RIGHT turn return to the bike path following W. Sunnyside Road for a short distance, then LEFT onto the Greenbelt, then turning RIGHT upon entering South Tourist Park UPPER LOOP to return to transition area.  There is an AID STATION at the Sprint turnaround with only water.

There will be volunteers and police at all major intersections—Use CAUTION on all corners and watch for gravel, cattle, and random farm sprinklers! Again, there will be a minor AID STATION that will have bottles of water only at the Sprint Turnaround.  You will be coached on where to dismount your bike and get ready for your run.

SPRINT RUN—3.14 Miles

The RUN portion of the GREAT SNAKE RIVER TRIATHLON will begin from South Tourist Park transition area Sprint run course out-n-back.  You will exit transition and head north along the scenic snake river greenbelt path until you come to Pancheri bridge on 17th St.  Turn left and head across the bridge and turn left again to go through the tunnel under the bridge to the northwest side of the river path.  Follow the path straight up to the aid station positioned at the restrooms near the SpringHill Suites.  At this point you will turn around and run back exactly the way you came.

We will have volunteers at all major road crossings / loops to guide runners on the greenbelt, once again returning to South Tourist Park and FINISH LINE.  Please be nice to other people using the walking path / greenbelt.  Run hard…there is a FINISHER MEDAL waiting for you after you pass the FINISH ARCH!

OLYMPIC RUN–5.9 Miles

You will begin the OLYMPIC run exiting transition and head north along the scenic Snake River greenbelt path until you come to Pancheri bridge on 17th St.  Turn left and head across the bridge and turn left again to go through the tunnel under the bridge to the northwest side of the river path.  Racers will follow the path straight up to the aid station positioned at the restrooms near the SpringHill Suites.  Continue all the way straight up to Broadway bridge where you will make an immediate right turn, running across the bridge to Key Bank and turn right again from W. Broadway onto S. Capitol and follow the sidewalk/path all the way back down to Pancheri bridge (paralleling the river you just ran up) and turn right going back across the Pancheri bridge.  Turn right immediately after crossing the bridge and go down and back through the same tunnel you already came through.  Proceed straight up onto the sidewalk and straight down the road.  The sidewalk will end and become an oiled road call Milligan Road.  At this point, you have a beautiful run along the river as a one mile out and back.  You will be able to see where you swam as well as the transition area across the river.  When you reach the end of the road there will be an aid station with gels, water, and Gatorade.  Turn around and run a mile straight back to the Pancheri bridge, turn right crossing it for the last time and immediately right again down the east river path, where you started your run, and race your last mile back into the finish line at South Tourist Park!

We will have volunteers at all major road crossings / loops to guide runners on the greenbelt. Please be nice to other people using the walking path / greenbelt.  Run hard…there is a FINISHER MEDAL waiting for you after you pass the FINISH ARCH!
